The Explorer II in waxed leather: the new stallion

This waxed leather, in other words that of a wild bull, is what the new Explorer II from Malfroid is all about.

As always when you refine a model – and the Explorer is now a classic in our derby collection alongside the Defender Highland, well we put everything back on the workbench: we rethink the proportions, the line, to further perfect the look from bottom to top, from the sole to the knot of the laces (orange this time!).

It all starts with an exceptionally robust leather, bewitching with its brutalist and tough look, so surprising when you caress it for the first time. Tame it, this shoe won’t laugh in the face of adversity. Or rather it will, with a calm and confident smile.

Putting it on immediately gives the feeling of being stronger, bigger, more powerful. Well shod, in short.

A goodyear welt, a microcellular St Moritz commando sole, the Explorer II takes the best of the previous model, but the result is a notch above.

This is the shoe of the trapper of the twenty-first century who would no longer roam the mountains and valleys to hunt but, listening to the elements, to preserve their wonders.

Modern ankle derby with a soft sophistication, which exudes something luxurious and primitive at the same time.

Behold, my lambs, the Explorer II is as beautiful on the asphalt of the cities, with you and your beautiful winter coat, as it is formidable on the most inhospitable lands in the world, making way to the unknown.

– Insert raw wood shoe trees into your shoes as soon as you take them off: they absorb moisture and preserve the integrity and shape of the shoe.

– Use a shoehorn for your comfort and to protect the shoe’s heel counter.

– Alternate your pairs of shoes as much as possible, as leather needs to dry properly to remain supple and keep its shape. Never leave your pair near a source of heat or humidity.

– This type of robust leather requires little maintenance. 1 to 2 times per season, clean the leather with a slightly damp sponge, let it dry, then use Saphir "special oiled leather" cream or a small amount of vegetable-based leather grease, applying it with a cloth or by hand using a steady, massaging motion. Let air dry.
