The « 1930-Reserve »: a Grand Cru Shoe.

A customer once asked us about what would, for us, be the « ultimate shoe ».

This simple, innocent yet haunting question is something that everyone carries deep down, whatever their passion: the ultimate race for the pilot or for the long-distance runner, the ultimate summit for the climber, the scent, the view, the dish, the ultimate moment. This question (which we code named « ultimate project »), gentlemanly throwned like a white silk glove in the face, made its way to becoming the project of a joyful addition to the Malfroid collection.

You don’t give the best of yourself overnight: a shoemaker patiently builds a collection, refines it, learns, tries, listens and moves forward. Time is his ally.

And so, for Malfroid, the ultimate shoe?

Well, instead of endless speeches, we preferred creating it and here it is: our new 1930-Reserve series.

Yes, our 1930-Reserve is our definition of the ultimate shoe, but in a very specific sense: a culmination of a shoemaker’s desire to make a beautiful product in the making of which raw material, craftsmenship and proportions creates the best possible equilibrium. To do that, we had to start all over again, step by step. A blank sheet of paper and a title:

The ‘1930-Reserve’

First of all, this new model had to breed within the Malfroid « RESERVE » range, a very special range indeed, with unique and precise construction specs, using selected leathers. A range we had inaugurated with a first series of cordovan loafers.

Then they had to be oxford shoes, because it’s the yardstick of men’s wardrobe. That’s where it all starts. An easy and safe model in terms of elegance and style.

The line and design had to be minimalist, no brogue, discreet stichings, a stripped down oxford in the simplest possible expression that never gets boring or old.

Above all, we had to give this model very clear signs of distinction in order to celebrate how exceptionnal it is.

And above all, to give this model its unique characteristics and distinction.

  •  French leather from du Puy tannery.
  • A blue Malfroid calfskin lining with gold branding on the insole
  • Saphir "Médaille d'or" laces
  • Engraved finish, extra-slow-tanned leather sole, double wooden shank, and all-leather heel
  • A carefully crafted storage box and accessories

Here, then, is our ideal shoe in a refreshed design, with all the qualities of a high-end model—simple, exquisite, and discreetly distinguished.

Our ideal shoe isn’t spectacular. It’s spectacularly beautiful.

– Regularly wipe your pair with a dry cloth or give it a quick brush.

– Use the Saphir Médaille d’Or lotion every five to ten wears. It cleans and nourishes the leather: this is an essential and regular maintenance step. The Saphir Médaille d’Or Surfine cream (neutral or in the shoe's color) is a complementary, more nourishing treatment.

– Once your shoes are clean and hydrated, apply a little Saphir Médaille d’Or wax polish to provide extra protection and a

New proportions

This new model introduces the 370 shape, derived from the 361.
The ideal chassis for this more than perfect shoe.
The last, however, undergoes a gentle revolution: the waist has been reworked, the overall seat modified, and all measurements reviewed.
The overall look of the shoe is round, full, lowered, and refined.
