Hear ye, hear ye, this double buckle or “monk strap” is a great classic among classics.

Derby with no laces, legend has it that it derives from strapped shoes worn by monks.

In fact this is a prince’s shoe, with its beautiful leather breastplate strapped like an armor (armor certainly but soft as the morning dew, my lords, for the buckles are mounted on elastic & will give you flexibility and comfort).

The urban man who had long snobed it finally adopted it, cherished it, giving it recognition, nobility and then absolute power, making it king of essentials in a man’s wardrobe. With formal or casual outfits, the double buckle adjusts and adapts to anything: it’s versatility made shoe and that’s kindda royal.

At Malfroid we prefer this model in a round shape and with a simple classic buckle: perfect proportions and optimal comfort. A shoe that we’ll love with a flannel, loden as well as a pair of jeans or a leather jacket.

– Insert raw wood shoe trees into your shoes as soon as you take them off: They absorb moisture and preserve the integrity and shape of the shoe.

– Use a shoehorn for your comfort and to protect the shoe’s heel counter.

– Alternate your pairs of shoes as much as possible, as leather needs to dry properly to remain supple and keep its shape. Never leave your pair near a source of heat or moisture.

– Regularly wipe your pair with a dry cloth or give them a quick brush.

– Use Saphir Médaille d’Or lotion every five to ten wears. It cleans and nourishes the leather: this is essential and regular maintenance. Saphir Médaille d’Or Pommadier cream (neutral or matching the shoe color) is a complementary treatment that is more nourishing.

– Once your shoes are clean and hydrated, apply a little Saphir Médaille d’Or shoe polish to provide extra protection and a glossy finish. Finally, buff using a chamois cloth or a soft-bristled brush.

– For a mirror shine (high shine), emulsify by alternating layers of polish and tiny drops of water, only on the rigid parts of the shoe. This process requires time and precision. Rub a nylon, wool, or cashmere stocking over a finished mirror shine.
