The Explorer II: the new stallion

As always when you refine a model – and the Explorer is now a classic in our boot collection alongside the Defender Highland, well we put everything back on the workbench: we rethink the proportions, the line, to further perfect the look from bottom to top, from the sole to the knot of the laces.

It all starts with an exceptionally robust leather, bewitching with its brutalist and tough look, so surprising when you caress it for the first time. Tame it, this shoe won’t laugh in the face of adversity. Or rather it will, with a calm and confident smile.

Putting it on immediately gives the feeling of being stronger, bigger, more powerful. Well shod, in short.

This is the shoe of the trapper of the twenty-first century who would no longer roam the mountains and valleys to hunt but, listening to the elements, to preserve their wonders.

Behold, my lambs, the Explorer II is as beautiful on the asphalt of the cities, with you and your beautiful winter coat, as it is formidable on the most inhospitable lands in the world, making way to the unknown.

– Insert raw wood shoe trees into your shoes as soon as you take them off: They absorb moisture and preserve the integrity and shape of the shoe.

– Use a shoehorn for your comfort and to protect the heel counter of the shoe.

– Alternate your pairs of shoes as much as possible, as leather needs to dry properly to remain supple and keep its shape. Never leave your pair near a source of heat or moisture.

– Regularly wipe your pair with a dry cloth or give them a quick brush.

– Use Saphir Médaille d’Or lotion every five to ten wears. It cleans and nourishes the leather: this is an essential and regular maintenance step. Saphir Médaille d’Or Pommadier cream (neutral or in the shoe’s color) is a complementary treatment that is more nourishing.

– Once your shoes are clean and hydrated, apply a little Saphir Médaille d’Or wax polish to provide extra protection and a shiny finish. Finally, buff using a chamois cloth or a soft-bristled brush.

– For a mirror shine (glacage), emulsify by alternating layers of wax polish and fine droplets of water, on the rigid parts of the shoe only. This operation requires time and precision. Run a nylon, wool, or cashmere stocking over a finished mirror shine.
