Malfroid and Chelsea Boots, shared passions.

Elegance as a style

A new season is taking shape; obviously cooler than summer but more exciting from a sartorial point of view. Autumn-winter is the ideal season for those who love to dress up, pairing fine shoes with their favorite outfits.

We are putting away moccasins, slippers, and loafers and taking out our oxfords, derbies, ankle boots… and Chelsea boots!

Hello jeans, flannel, wool, and corduroy trousers.

Trends come and go, but not the Chelsea Boot. Even today, it is a must-have in our wardrobe. It can be worn casually or chic. Everything suits it.

Its virtues are many. It pairs just as well with jeans and a t-shirt as it does with a suit. The world is a fan of its comfort and practicality. They were invented with this in mind. A model that wraps around the foot and ankle, giving a relaxed feel.

A history, a legacy.

The Berrière Chelsea boot by Malfroid: a timeless model.

As a bootmaker for the Republican Guard for decades, Malfroid maintains a very strong connection with this originally equestrian model. The name Malfroid gave it refers to the Château de la Berrière in Loire-Atlantique, where equestrian tradition has been perpetuated for centuries.

Its shape features a refined silhouette, ideal for wearing with jeans or a suit.

Its construction is traditional, Goodyear-welted on a rubber sole. The leather quality is impeccable. The hides come from the Dupuy tanneries, a historic and prestigious house in Le Puy-en-Velay.

Royal origins, a military name, and rock'n'roll Beatlemania.

It all began with an innocuous gift. One from a bootmaker to the English royal court whose mission was to modernize equestrian attire while remaining elegant. Princess Alexandrina Victoria of Hanover, the future Queen of England, had the privilege of being the first to wear the Chelsea Boot!

High-ranking officers in the Chelsea district of London gave it the iconic name we know today. Indeed, during gala dinners, they would wear these black smooth-leather boots with their formal uniforms.

Even though Chelsea Boots became democratized to the point of becoming a unisex standard in England, the Beatles contributed heavily to revolutionizing the image and style of classic boots.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney, legends of the Beatles, as well as Bob Dylan, significantly rejuvenated the Chelsea boot. They were the ambassadors of a rock and uninhibited style. One could now be a rock 'n' roll dandy. The fans would follow…

It can be said that the Chelsea boot is one of the models that most influenced the history of fashion in the 20th century due to its importance in cultural and societal evolutions.
