The “1930-Reserve”: a Grand Cru Shoe.
A customer once asked us about what would, for us, be the “ultimate shoe”.
This simple, innocent yet haunting question is something that everyone carries deep down, whatever their passion: the ultimate race for the pilot or for the long-distance runner, the ultimate summit for the climber, the scent, the view, the dish, the ultimate moment. This question (which we code named “ultimate project”), gentlemanly throwned like a white silk glove in the face, made its way to becoming the project of a joyful addition to the Malfroid collection.
You don’t give the best of yourself overnight: a shoemaker patiently builds a collection, refines it, learns, tries, listens and moves forward. Time is his ally.
And so, for Malfroid, the ultimate shoe?

Well, instead of endless speeches, we preferred creating it and here it is: our new 1930-Reserve series.
Yes, our 1930-Reserve is our definition of the ultimate shoe, but in a very specific sense: a culmination of a shoemaker’s desire to make a beautiful product in the making of which raw material, craftsmenship and proportions creates the best possible equilibrium. To do that, we had to start all over again, step by step. A blank sheet of paper and a title:
The ‘1930-Reserve’
First of all, this new model had to breed within the Malfroid “RESERVE” range, a very special range indeed, with unique and precise construction specs, using selected leathers. A range we had inaugurated with a first series of cordovan loafers.
Then they had to be oxford shoes, because it’s the yardstick of men’s wardrobe. That’s where it all starts. An easy and safe model in terms of elegance and style.
The line and design had to be minimalist, no brogue, discreet stichings, a stripped down oxford in the simplest possible expression that never gets boring or old.
Above all, we had to give this model very clear signs of distinction in order to celebrate how exceptionnal it is.
– The overall look of the shoe : round, dense, low, sleek. Like the most iconic shoes of the 60s and 70s, the 1930-R has a larger opening & a fully redesigned upper : all the proportions have been reworked.
– A french leather of an exceptional grade, the new “Chateaubriand” calf exclusively from the Du Puy tannery and selected for this model only.
– A blue calfskin lining with a gold engraving where the heel sits.
– Saphir médaille d’or laces
– A Goodyear-welted with an under channel finish on our standard vegetable-tanned sole with a double wood shank and an full leather heel
– A signature storage box and accessories.
The 1930-R has an ample and well-balanced shape with all the qualities of a top-of-the-range model. It is available for you to enjoy : a simple, exquisite and discreetly distinguished pair of shoes.
Mind you, our 1930-R is also available in a patine version (in classic Malfroid leather) for just a few euros more. You’ll enjoy the tailor-made color which will give your 1930-R the subtle, plain or gradient color palette that you wish. The choice of colours here is almost endless.
Our ideal shoe is not spectacular. It is spectacularly beautiful.
