Cordovan: grand cru leather

Some objects have an aura.

Some materials too.

By its patina, its chatoyancy, its unique characteristics & the mystery that surrounds its manufacture (more than 100 steps are necessary), the cordovan radiates from the heart of its fibers a lustrous fire that, like an islay whisky really, one gradually tames and then reveres. There is indeed something that plays with the idea of worshiping, among some aficionados.

One must, at least once, have possessed a pair of cordovan shoes to understand.

The cordovan is a intermediary part of the rump of a horse, that is to say, per animal, only two small oval pieces of leather with unique physical characteristics. Vegetable tanning of 8 to 10 months is necessary to create the genuine cordovan shell.

Our cordovan comes from a renowned Italian tannery located on the lakes, near Milan.

Its characteristics?

– its solidity,

– its natural luster ruby color, of a deep red brown, reminiscent of roasted cherry,

– its beautiful pleated and its rounded behavior.

This first series of cordovan penny loafers inaugurates a new Malfroid range.

Called the reserve range, in which we thrive to raise our level of attention to detail, to finish as well as the quality and nature of the leathers used: rare, limited series and Goodyear with invisible channel stitching so that each pair made can be the emblem of what Malfroid does best.

A Goodyear welt with an invisible channel stitching means that the throat in which the seam is made on the sole is then closed to protect the sewing thread. Thus resulting in a solid, perfectly smooth & neat finish.

For the pleasure of the eyes, each pair is delivered in its black limited edition box with a Reserve in gold letters signature.

Because nothing is too beautiful for this new range.
